Eastbourne has approx. 93 000 inhabitants, and is situated around 90 km south of London. It is possible to reach it from Victoria Station with the train in about 90 minutes. Eastbourne is the biggest and most popular swimming area, after Brighten and Hastings in East Sussex. The city lies in the middle of soft hills with very impressive houses and magnificent parks. The atmosphere in Eastbourne is more easy going than in other south coastal cities. The beach promenade (small stones) is over 5 km long, and the Carpet Gardens with very rich and colorful flowerbeds, are very inviting. In the pedestrian zone you can watch people sitting in the restaurants and recover from your hectic shopping tour. The city has many sport activities to offer, and is ideal for tennis and golf players. Internationaler tennis tournaments take place here, which means that the infrastructure is ideal – in total there are over 60 grass and bitumen tennis courts. Golf players have the choice between three major centers very close to the city center. There are also swimming pools, sailing facilities, bowling alleys and much more.
If you are looking for entertainment, there are 4 theaters, summer festivals, pop concerts, classical concerts, ballet or the cinema, as well as many traditional pubs in the city and in the surrounding regions.

The charming surroundings of the city are very inviting to stroll around, and the peaceful country roads are perfect for going bike riding. A popular place for tourists close to the city center is Beachy Head – very tall chalky cliffs, that are west of Eastbourne. You will find many language students in Eastbourne during the summer, whilst during the rest of the year, it is relatively quiet.
