The population is approx. 400 000, an ideal size to make the city interesting and comfortable. The city is well known for its colorful festivals and traditions such as the "Hogueras de San Juan", a massive street festival, similiar to the "Fallas" in Valencia. The young and dynamic students that live in the area close to the habour, also ensure that the nightlife doesn't stop pulsating.
The majority of the population speak accent free Spanish and are famous for their warm heartedness. You may hear some Catalanish spoken here and there. The excellent food and the great wine from the region are treasured and savoured by those who try it.
