In the south west of Spain lies the capital city of the Andalusian region. The population is approx. 700 000. The habour of Sevillas plays a very important role in the trading that takes place between Amerika and Spain and is still the most used river habour on the peninsula. The history of this region stretches back over 2 500 years, and many of the original monuments are still standing. The 3 most important have been listed by UNESCO as part of the World Cultural Inheritance: the Catholic Cathedral, which is being used as a maurischian Minarett, the very elaborate, maurischian palace Palast Alcazár and das Archivo de Indias, in which the independence of Spain – America is documented.
The city has many cultural and historical aspects, and is seen as being modern and very open. As a result of the World Exhibition in 1992 a lot of money was invested in the city, builidings were renovated and the transport system is now in an excellent condition with good connections.
Even though Sevilla is the forth biggest city in Spain, it has been able to maintain its atmosphere as a cosy, Andalusian city. With houses that appear to be dipped in white, and in unexpected nisches, you will find excellent restaurants with lively Tapas culture, a great nightlife, typical bullfighting and the Flamenco. Because Sevilla is the center of the modern Flamenco, the dances are known to be amongst the most authentic in Spain. Even more well known are the grand and impressive processions during the Easter week and the lively, colourful, folklore and joyfull Féria de Sevilla. They take place in April, when the climate is at its best, just as it is in Autumn. In summer the temperature can reach 45° degrees, the winters are wet. The locals are very warm hearted, charming and helpful. Submerge yourself in the Spanish way of life and enjoy being greeted with open arms!
